Happy Birthday Lucy!

Our beautiful little Lucy turned 3 last week!  I made both Lucy and her new doll seersucker dresses to celebrate.

Because summer is almost over I had a little trouble finding some easy care seersucker but finally found this pretty blue to match Lucy's eyes!  I used New Look pattern #6884 and made absolutely no changes!  What a surprise!  The dress was simple and went together beautifully.  The only thing I would change if I were to make it again would be to cut the sleeves on the fold and make a casing for the elastic rather than using seam binding.  Finally, I designed a matching doll dress.  What fun!!

For pictures of this dress in action, here you go!

  1. How sweet! I really like to sew...alas it is one of those things that will have to wait until I have more time. :)

  2. How very sweet! I absolutely loved wearing my seersucker dresses when I was Lucy's age and a little older. And to have a matching doll dress is very, very special.
You know, when she outgrows this lovely dress, you could probably find a stuffed bear that wears the same size. (I put two of my girls' Easter dresses on their bears, and the bears are still wearing them a decade and a half later! And since I have custody of the bears, I get too look at them and "remember when.")

  14. Hi Kristy, I'm putting together this same dress but I'm having issues with the sleeves. The elastic is too tight and I can't match it with the bodice. Please help!!!!

  15. Sorry I just got your question. You've probably already got it figured out! I'm guessing that you put the elastic all the way through the casing. If you look carefully at sleeve pattern, the elastic only extends 3/8" beyond the broken lines in the casing. Hope that helps! If not, send me another message.
